Trust – the Foundation for a Cohesive Team

, ,

Teamwork is essential. By teaming effectively, work is accomplished faster and better, employee relations improve, and accountability is increased. In his book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni states that the factors that will tear a team apart … or keep it from forming … are: absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results. The good news is that in his program, the Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team, we have excellent tools to build a team and solidify its effectiveness.

Lencioni states that the foundation for any team is trust. If the members of the are unwilling to be open and honest with each other, then the team is off to a rocky start. Lencioni’s definition of trust is that people feel safe to admit their mistakes, recognize their shortcomings, and ask for help.

By facilitating the Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team and working with teams to regain trust, along with the other four behaviors, we are able to help the team grow stronger and better together. It is a truly remarkable program that gets great results!

How is your team working? Could it be better? Do you really trust each other enough to admit faults and foibles? If so, that’s great. If not, it is not too late to work on it. Trust is essential and once it is gained, the team can really start to develop. Let us show you how!
