Dear Dr. Mimi: Promoted and Perplexed

Dear Dr. Mimi,
I recently got a promotion at work. I’ve been with the company for five years now, and I’m excited to get the chance to move up. Not only do I work really hard, I have a good attitude. Recently, some co-workers of mine have been acting kind of stand-off-ish towards me, and I’m wondering if it’s because they didn’t get promoted. Please tell me if I’m over analyzing this situation or not. How can I fix this?

Sincerley,

–Promoted and Perplexed

Dear P and P,
Congrats on the promotion! It’s O.K. to be excited and proud of your hard work paying off. If you have a good attitude, you should be able to brush off the negative conducts of your co-workers. Keep in mind this is probably nothing you should take personally and their time will come. If it gets taken further and your work is affected, make a point to contact H.R.

Keep up the good work!

–Dr. Mimi
